U-8 BEACON ELECTRIC
BEACON ELECTRIC HULL SPECIFICATIONS:
- Built: 2014 by Ellstrom Crew and Ron Jones Jr.as Miss Elam Plus.
- Modified in 2023 by Jeff Campbell and the Strong Racing Team.
- Length: 30 ft., Width: 14, Weight: 6,575 pounds.
- Construction Materials: Composite materials (Honeycomb aluminum. fiberglass, carbon fiber)
- Engine: The Lycoming T-55 L-7C is a shaft turbine, rated at 2,650 horsepower at the output shaft.
The engine was used in the Viet Nam era by the twin-engine Chinook Helicopter.
- Engine manufacturer: Avco Lycoming
- Engine output shaft speed: 15,300 rpm. Gearbox: 50% reduction.
- Engine Compressor Ratio: 7:1.
- Engine Weight: 800 pounds.
- Oil Capacity: 5 gallons.
- Propeller: 3 Blade, 16" Diameter, 26" Pitch, built using 13-8 MO Stainless Steel.

DRIVER: .1 MICHAEL KELLY
- Began racing outboard hydroplanes at 9 years of age.
- Grade school classmate of teammate Corey Peabody, driver of the U-9.
- 2004 H1 Unlimited Rookie of the Year driving Jim Harvey's Graham Trucking.
- First win was 2009 at the UIM World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
- Won his second UIM World Championship in 2014.
- Won 2016 APBA Gold Cup in Detroit driving Rob Graham's Graham Trucking.
- Won four times in Seattle: 2014, 2015, 2019, 2022.
- Won his first H1 National High Points Driver Championship in 2021
- Has 15 career wins, puts him 14th on the all-time win list, 1 behind legendary Chuck Thompson.
- Inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions in 2021 for the 8th time in his career.
- When not racing, or watching his children race, Kelly is a lead carpenter in the Pacific Northwest.
- Kelly lives in Bonney Lake, WA, with his wife Angela and sons Brennen, Carson, and Asher.

Darrell & Venessa Strong were sponsors for 8 years prior to purchasing two of the fastest boats on the circuit from Ellstrom Racing (U-8) and Jones Racing (U-9) and assembling his own team in late 2020. The team won its first race in Guntersville and went on to win 3 out of 4 races in 2021. They followed up in 2022 with 3 more wins including the APBA Gold Cup for a total of six race wins in two years. No other team has enjoyed such success!

- Began racing outboard hydroplanes in 1998 alongside grade school classmate (and now Strong Racing teammate) J. Michael Kelly.
- First qualified as an H1 Unlimited driver in 2016, after spending 3 years as an H1 Unlimited crew member for J. Michael Kelly.
- His first race as a driver was the 2016 APBA Gold Cup in Detroit, Mich., driving the U-57, Spirit of Detroit for Ted Porter. (7th place finish)
- Drove the U-98 Graham Trucking, American Dream, hydroplane for Rob Graham in 2019.
- Corey finished 5th Place in Driver National High Points in 2019.
- Joined Strong Racing in 2021.
- Claimed first H1 Unlimited victory at the 2021 HAPO Columbia Cup.
- Won the 2022 APBA Gold Cup in the Guntersville Lake Hydrofest.
- Finished on the podium at every race during the 2021 H1 Unlimited Season.
- Married to wife, Stacey, and has 3 children: daughters Ryley, and Leighton, and son Rayce.
